Christmas Markets in Munich

I’ve just got back from a very festive trip to Munich. For once I was happy when I saw MUC on my roster as I knew December would be the perfect time to visit the Christmas market!

The flight over was nice and easy, with most of our passengers sleeping through the flight, having connected from Australia or Asia.

We arrived into Munich around lunchtime, and I messaged my brother Matt, who lives there, to let him know I’d arrived at the hotel. He set off to come and meet me, and after a quick shower and change I was ready to go. Matt arrived at my hotel and we were ready to hit the markets!

Our hotel was decorated beautifully festively, with tons of sparkly, snowy Christmas trees and pretty lights everywhere!

We got the underground into the city centre, and walked through the streets towards Marienplatz, which is where the biggest Christmas market is held. I was in need of something to keep me going and warm my hands so we stopped off at Starbucks on the way to grab a drink.

We walked through the city, passing by all the lovely little stalls selling Christmas decorations, German sausages and Glühwein. We stopped off at a few shops and had a look for some Christmas presents as well, although I won’t be giving away what we bought!

Finally we arrived at Marienplatz just as the sun was beginning to set, leaving a beautiful pink and orange trail in the sky.

We strolled through looking at all the lovely stalls and decorations and stopping to buy a few baubles for my tree. (Which I’ve had up since the 1st of December :D)

Christmas is most definitely my favourite time of year and I love seeing all the lights and decorations. I have to say, Munich was a great place to be during this time of year!

Matt’s girlfriend was meant to be joining us for dinner in the evening, but unfortunately she’d been working all day and was feeling exhausted so decided not to come. However, one of our old neighbours from Austria saw that we were in Munich (he also lives there) and contacted me to see if we had plans for the evening.

Matt had booked us a table at a restaurant near to my hotel, so our neighbour came and joined us for dinner! We had a lovely evening catching up and eating some yummy food!

After dinner I headed back to the hotel, very ready for my bed. In the morning there was just time for some breakfast and a quick trip to the supermarket to pick up a few things before wake-up call.

The flight back home was also relatively easy (for once, Munich flights are usually very busy!) and I was home in time to enjoy a nice glass of wine!

Thanks Matt for a lovely afternoon and dinner in Munich!

    Hello,

I read that EK owns apartment buildings which are used for crew housing. Could you tell me if they are very strict, is there a curfew for all of those who live there and do you have to return there every night? Are men’s quarters separated from the women’s? If you are in a relationship with someone that isn’t an EK employee, can you stay at their place or do you have to go back to you apartment?

    Thank you.

Hi there! No of course there’s not a curfew, you don’t have to stay in your apartment if you don’t want to! Obviously men and women don’t live together in the same apartment, however all of the apartment blocks are completely mixed. You can totally stay over, just bear in mind that it’s technically illegal in Dubai if you’re not married, although it’s very common for unmarried couples to live together!

Can I ask why some girls wear pants even though they are not shower attendants? Merry Xmas!

I’m not really sure to be honest, usually if they have to wear a knee brace or something like that I’m guessing.

    Hi Rachel,

Thank you for your diligent updates about your life as an EK Cabin Crew. I’ve been on hold since September 21st and the wait seems to last forever, although i know it is definitely worth. Had it not been for your informative and vivid blog, i would have been exhausted from boredom and impatience.

Keep up the good work 😀 Hope to see you in person when i get in Dubai.
