Beach Days in the Maldives

After an incredible sunset on our first night in the Maldives, we were up bright and early the next day to make the most of the day.

Starting off with a huge variety of fresh fruits, pastries, hot dishes, including local Maldivian delights, and more at the breakfast buffet. There are two main restaurants as the island is fairly large and we were at the “couple” end of the island, rather than “family” side.

After breakfast it was straight back to the beaches, to do some exploring!

We strolled along, stopping every few metres to spot all sorts of wildlife, including small reef sharks! The water was so clear that you can see everything, and there were plenty of baby sharks swimming along through the waves.

Isn’t that the most beautifully bright blue water you’ve ever seen?

Dotted all around the island are little swinging eggs, wooden swings and hammocks to sit in and relax. Just perfect for lying and doing absolutely nothing!

Joe and I spent the day snorkelling, lying on the sun loungers soaking up the sun, reading, sipping cocktails and swimming in the pool. The ocean is pretty shallow but you can still see some amazing fish underwater. We actually booked on to a snorkelling trip one morning which was included as part of our all-inclusive package, but decided not to go in the end as we were just enjoying being on the beach so much!

At Meeru Island you can also find some of the Maldives’ infamous overwater villas. We strolled out along the walkway watching all of the fish below, and even spotting an enormous sting-ray! At the end of the path we sat out and watched the waves come in, and all the different shades of blue of the water.

This picture doesn’t quite do the sting-ray justice, it was easily 2 metres long including the tail. You can see some of the reef sharks below, these were some of the larger ones that we spotted.

After tiring ourselves out snorkelling under the water villas, we headed back to the beach to relax some more. After all, if you can’t spend your days relaxing when you’re on holiday in the Maldives, when can you? 🙂

Despite the occasional grey cloudy skies, the temperature was perfect, and the air wasn’t too humid.

On our final day we got up before breakfast to have a stroll around the whole of the island, before anyone else was awake.

It was so peaceful and serene with nobody else around and just the sound of the waves accompanying us on our walk along the sand.

We found a little sand bank jutting out from the tip of the island, which was just so pretty.

A coffee with our toes in the sand was the perfect way to end our little stroll, and set ourselves up for another day in paradise.

Spent once again soaking up the sun, finishing another book, and swimming in the beautiful clear waters.

And finally….enjoying one last Maldivian sunset before getting back on the boat towards Malé airport.

The perfect end to a perfect holiday in the Maldives!
