Snowy Stockholm

I’ve recently ticked off another destination from my list – Stockhom, Sweden! I was excited to visit a new country, and after a nice and easy flight with 0 passengers in first class, we landed into Stockholm Arlanda airport in the evening.

As you can see, the views on the way over were pretty spectacular. I love seeing the snowy mountains and it makes me want to go skiing desperately!

As we got to the hotel in the evening, it was pretty chilly outside, so a group of us just met in the hotel bar for a drink before calling it a night.

The next morning I was up early, and after breakfast headed out to the city, luckily only a short walk away from our hotel, to do some exploring.

Stockholm is divided into the old town, Gamla Stan, and the new town. I love seeing old buildings in Europe, so decided to walk to the old town. As I was walking, it started snowing! Big, pretty flakes that stayed all over my coat, but sadly didn’t settle on the ground.

Gamla Stan is full of tiny little cafes and restaurants, all with a cozy, homely feel to them. I loved it!

In Sweden they have a tradition called “Fika”, which pretty much means “to have coffee”. It can also be replaced with tea and is usually accompanied by some sort of pastry, such as a cinnamon roll. I was still pretty full from breakfast so didn’t stop to sit in one of the cafes, but did buy a cinnamon roll to have later.

I strolled down to the waterfront, and back through the winding streets.

I found myself in this charming square, with pretty colourful houses.

I crossed back into the newer area of town, and had a browse through the shops. After a few hours it was time to head back to the hotel, where I ordered some traditional Swedish meatballs for lunch, and enjoyed my cinnamon roll with a cup of tea in bed – delicious!

I managed to get a quick nap in before it was time to wake up and get ready for the overnight flight back to Dubai. I loved exploring Stockholm, such a pretty city and I will definitely be bidding for it again.

We landed back into Dubai just in time to see the sun rising.

Thanks Stockholm for a great layover!

Well apart from looking after the pilots I actually ended up working in economy most of the flight! Other than that…drink tea and chat! 😀
