I was so happy to finally be rostered a flight to the Seychelles, and despite only having less than 17 hours there, I was determined to make the most of my layover!
The flight from Dubai is just over 4 hours, so it’s nice and easy, although the aircraft we were on didn’t have a first class so I was working in economy this time.
However, I couldn’t complain as it meant I got a chance to be down the back of the aircraft and see the tail up close, which doesn’t happen too often!
I was also sitting by the window, and had some spectacular views of the island on approach.
Once we touched down it was a bit of a drive across the island to our hotel, and once we arrived it actually started to rain! Luckily it didn’t last long, and we were soon checked in and it was straight down to the beach for some sunshine.
It feels like the best reward to work a flight and then get this after checking in! The beach was beautiful, crystal clear water and the softest sand between my toes.
First up was a dip in the ocean, which was the perfect temperature. Almost the whole crew were out on the beach – how can you resist this after all?
We all ordered a fresh coconut to sip on whilst laying in the sun, which was just perfect.
There’s a rope swing on the beach which obviously all of the crew love to take pictures with, so we couldn’t help ourselves and headed over for a swing! It’s actually a lot harder to get on than it looks, unless you have someone helping to hold it steady. We were all on a mission to get that perfect shot for instagram, so we managed! 😉
I went for a stroll along the beach and found some slightly more hidden areas – I just wish we had more time to explore as there were some incredible rock formations across the other side of the beach I would have loved to see up close.
We stayed on the beach enjoying the glorious sunshine and beautiful warm water until sunset, before jumping on the golf buggy back to our rooms.
After freshening up all of the crew agreed to meet for dinner, and the buffet was amazing with a huge varied selection. It can be hard to stay healthy when travelling which is why I very rarely go for a dinner buffet, but I’m so glad I made an exception for this one!
The next morning our wake up call was bright and early, and I got ready listening to the sound of the birds chirping. We were already off to the airport before the sun started to come up, and got to see a spectacular sunrise along the way.
I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful island, and I’m so happy to be heading back soon to hopefully explore some more!

I’ve been following your blog for probably about 2 years, now I’m crew myself! Just wondered how Emirates do the working positions for crew? Is it all on seniority and most experienced? Or does the purser choose?
My airline we only have 4 crew onboard so we pick at the briefing where we want to work. Position 1 is always the cabin manager/Purser and then 2, 3 & 4. Cabin crew can work any position. I prefer 2 or 3 as it’s down the back!

Hi Louise! Thanks so much for reading my blog! 🙂 Who do you fly for? So we all have our specific cabins that we work in (you start in economy, then business, then can move your way up to first class or cabin supervisor, then eventually purser) so usually the purser assigns the positions in an email the day before the flight, or sometimes if they can’t be bothered we just pick in the briefing and it goes by seniority, then for the return sector we choose from junior to senior! Hope that makes sense 🙂 I love working in first class so much haha but often if there are no passengers I’ll go and help down in economy! xx
