Business Class here I come!

This past week I’ve had a bit of time off from flying and been back in training college, studying for my business upgrade!

The 5 day course covered everything we’ll need to know transitioning from economy to business class (although I have a sneaky suspicion that once I’m onboard it’ll all be very different!).

Before the course started we were given some homework to prepare ourselves, and the first morning was spent doing an assessment to test our knowledge. Luckily everyone passed and we were all able to continue! View Post

Eating my way around Australia

I got back yesterday from a lovely week with my family in Australia. My cousin Sarah studies at university in Melbourne, and my Aunty and Uncle and Grandparents live in Canberra.

The original plan was for Sarah to come and visit in Dubai, but somehow that ended up not happening and I decided to make the most of my staff travel benefits (as I like to do every month!) and fly to Australia!

The flight was looking pretty good, with around 40 spare seats, so I booked my ticket and packed my bags. However as I double checked the loads the night before, suddenly there were only 3 seats available to Melbourne! Luckily the guys at staff travel did their best and I managed to get on, even it was the dreaded middle seat! But who’s complaining when you’re paying practically nothing 😉

13 hours later I finally arrived in Melbourne airport, and Sarah came to pick me up. As it was only around 6am we headed back to hers for the most important thing – sleep!

After some much needed sleep it was onto what somehow turned into a theme for the rest of the week – breakfast! Or more like brunch, although not in the Dubai sense of the word (going out on a Friday from 12-4 and eating and drinking as much as possible!).

Rostering Around

A couple of days ago my September roster came out.

I was waiting with very high hopes as it is my so-called ” top bid” so I’m at the highest priority to get what I bid for. And it worked! (More or less 🙂 )

  • Starting off Sept with 5 days of much-needed leave, plus a couple of extra days off either side. (I’ll be heading to Melbourne tomorrow morning to stay with my cousin, then we’re going to Canberra to visit my Aunt and Uncle and my Grandparents!)
  • Karachi t/a
  • Business Class Upgrade Course (5 days in training college)
  • Rio – Buenos Aires – Rio
  • Jeddah t/a
  • Doha t/a

As you can see one of these is very very exciting….I’m going to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires! I absolutely cannot wait. This is the most bid for trip in the whole company, so I’m very happy to finally have got it!

Not only that, I also have my business class upgrade. Back to training college for 5 days; I’ve already been doing lots of online preparation for it. This means that from October onwards I’ll no longer be working in economy class any more! 🙂

As always feel free to leave me comments with any questions you might have, I’ll try and incorporate them into a blog post!

Chicago, Part II

So I know my latest post was about Chicago, but seeing as I went back there after 5 days off I thought it only best to upload some more pictures of this beautiful city!

In my days off beforehand I decided to go home and surprise mum…it didn’t quite go to plan as I ended up not getting on the first flight I tried as it was completely overbooked, so I got the first flight to Europe which ended up being Milan, then connected on to Vienna, and finally running and catching a train to Klagenfurt without about 10 seconds to spare! I was more than a little tired after two nights without a bed (CRC coming home on the overnight flight from Chicago, then getting a few hours sleep in a not-so-comfy economy seat!) but it was great to be home for a few days.

We popped up to the house in the mountains to get it ready for some guests who were arriving the next day, and also had a long walk through the woods behind the house.

The Windy City!

I’ve just got back from one of our newest destinations…Chicago! I think we operated the 5th flight there, so of course none of us had been before and we were very happy to be going. We flew out on the 777-200 which is great, as it means less passengers for us 😀

The flight took around 13 hours and 45 minutes. After clearing customs and collecting our bags, we waited for our bus to pick us up and drove around an hour to our hotel, which is handily located right in the centre.
