Fort Lauderdale & Miami, Florida

I was pretty happy to start the month off with a brand new destination – Fort Lauderdale, Florida! The flight over from Dubai is long, around 15 hours, but since it departs in the middle of the night most of our passengers in first class went straight to sleep. Leaving us to somehow power through and stay awake!

With plenty of tea and coffee and chats getting to know the rest of the crew, we finally made it. Approaching Florida we were greeted by these gorgeous views below, which made all of us excited to finally touch down!

Sunset, Steak & Rain in Rio

If you follow me on Instagram you may well have seen that somehow I was lucky enough to swap two of my not-so-lovely night turnarounds to Mashhad and Hyderabad (both leaving at atrocious times of the night and coming back around lunchtime-ish!) for a flight to Rio de Janeiro!

Now, for anyone that is crew, you’ll know that this is a practically impossible trip to swap on to! Rio is one of our most highly desired trips, and even after bidding for it for years I’ve only been lucky enough to get it once, way back when I was still working in economy. You can read all about it here. This time around, instead of heading onwards to Buenos Aires (and then back to Rio for another day) I would be spending 30 hours in Rio and then flying back to Dubai.

I can’t lie, working in first class does have it’s perks. Whilst economy and business class were completely chockablock, we were lucky enough to just have one passenger in first! So in-between looking after him and the flight deck and helping out in economy to keep ourselves busy, the 14-hour flight went by fairly smoothly.

We touched down in Rio in the afternoon, and were welcomed by beautiful sunshine and palm trees.

Snapshots from Barcelona

Barcelona…one of my favourite cities in the world! I lived nearby in a small seaside town for 3 months one summer doing an internship as a hotel receptionist, and most weekends or days off we would jump on the train and head into the city.

So every time I see Barcelona on my roster, I’m always happy!

We arrived fairly late in the evening and a few of the crew were heading down for tapas. Normally I would have joined them as I love tapas, but it was already late and considering I wasn’t actually even hungry, I decided to give it a miss this time.

The next morning I was up fairly early and popped down to the breakfast buffet, where I bumped into a few of the other crew. We decided to head into the city for a stroll around, as the weather was gorgeous.

Our first stop was the Boqueria Market, a huge covered market selling all sorts of tasty treats.

June Roster

It seems like I only just pressed publish on my May roster, but here we are again with another roster post!

I’m currently on reserve, as mentioned in my May roster post, and so far I’ve been given a flight to Milan and a flight to London, as well as a quick overnight turnaround to Jeddah and back. I’ve still got quite a way to go so stay tuned on here and my Instagram, where I post more day-to-day updates, to see where else I end up this month!

I’ll be finishing my reserve around the 11th of June, and after that I’ll be heading to:

  • NBO – Nairobi, Kenya (turnaround)
  • LNE – HRE – Lusaka, Zambia & Harare, Zimbabwe
  • LHR – London Heathrow, UK
  • BCN – Barcelona, Spain

After my turnaround to Nairobi I have a string of 5 days off, so hope to head on a mini getaway somewhere warm with my girlfriends!

The LNE – HRE trip is one I haven’t done before. We fly to Lusaka, have a quick stop on ground, then on to Harare where we have a 24 hour layover. So if you have any tips or suggestions for what to do and see in 24 hours in Harare, please let me know.

Then it’s on to London, and after that one of my favourites, Barcelona, where I hope to top up my tan on the beach! In the meantime, let’s hope for some nice flights on my reserve 🙂

P.s. Follow me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter for more day-to-day updates of where I am in the world! 🙂

Beach Biking in California

My last flight of the month before my reserve started was to LAX. I’ve actually visited Los Angeles twice before, and have done most of the “touristy” stuff, including visiting the Walk of Fame, Santa Monica, the Hollywood Sign, Beverly Hills and such. So this time a few of us decided to do something a little different and stay closer to the area that our crew hotel is in, rather than heading to the city.

As usual when I’m in the States, I woke up early (more like in the middle of the night really, around 3am!) and tossed and turned in bed trying to get back to sleep, but gave up by 6am and got ready for breakfast instead. At breakfast I met up with a couple of the other crew, and one of the girls suggested we head down to Huntington Beach, have a stroll around and hire some bikes. So that was exactly what we did!

Unfortunately I seemed to have brought the bad weather with me from Milan, and instead of it being sunny California weather that I was expecting, it was grey and dreary! Looks like I packed the wrong clothes as well, as I only brought things for sunny weather…oops!
