December Roster

The final roster of 2019 is here! It’s been a great year and I’ve visited many of my favourite destinations, as well as a few new ones.

I’ve also worked my way up from FG1 (first class crew) to CSV (cabin supervisor) which has been a new challenge but something that I am enjoying so far, although it’s very different!

I haven’t been posting much on here the past few months as I’ve been preparing things for my CSV “pool”, as it’s called – the 6 month probation period that we have to pass.

For the last month of the year I’ll be heading off to some familiar destinations and hopefully enjoying the Christmas spirit around the world! My roster next month looks like this:

  • SEP
  • VIE – Vienna, Austria
  • SYD – Sydney, Australia
  • CAI – Cairo, Egypt (turnaround)
  • AMS – Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Leave
  • VIE – Vienna, Austria

First up are my annual exams – time to get studying! We have 2 full-on days of exams every year and this time it’s at the beginning of the month, which means I can get them out of the way before Christmas.

Then I have a trip to Vienna which I’m very excited about – I love Austria at Christmastime and I’ll definitely be checking out the beautiful markets and drinking some Glühwein!

Following on from that, a 43 hour layover in Sydney. This is a bit longer than our usual Australian layovers so I’m very much looking forward to 2 days Down Under. While I’m there it’ll also be exactly 7 years since I joined Emirates and moved to Dubai!

After that is my one turnaround of the month, Cairo. A fairly long day as the flights are around 3,5 – 4 hours each way … but at least it’s not as long as the two Istanbul turnarounds I’ve just done!

Then I have a flight to Amsterdam – I think it’s been around 2 years since I last visited. I’ll definitely be going into the city and having a wander around as it’s such a beautiful place.

That’s the last flight before my leave, which I’ll be spending at home with my family of course! It’s over Christmas which I’m very happy about, and although we usually spend it in Austria I think we’re planning to stay in England this year. Looking quite unlikely for a white Christmas but you never know!

My final flight of the year is another layover in Vienna. I’ll be landing back into Dubai  just before midnight on New Year’s Eve – so I’ll most likely be bringing in 2020 collecting blankets and headsets on the plane!

Thanks as always for following along with my journey at Emirates and reading my blog!

October Roster

My first roster as a cabin supervisor! Having now completed my training (just over 2 weeks) I’ll be starting out from next month working as a CSV. It’ll certainly be a different experience from first class but I’m very much looking forward to the change.

Luckily my month will be very nice to ease into, as I’m starting off with some annual leave. As for the rest, this is where I’ll be off to in October:

  • Annual Leave
  • HKG – Hong Kong
  • IKA – Tehran, Iran
  • ZRH – Zurich, Switzerland
  • MEL – Melbourne, Australia
  • STN – London Stansted, UK
  • STN – London Stansted, UK

For my leave, my sister and I are heading to the Dominican Republic! We’ll be spending a few days exploring Santo Domingo, and then a bit of time relaxing by the beach in Punta Cana. Anything we must see or do, please comment down below!

My first flight operating as CSV will be to Hong Kong! One of my favourite destinations, and somehow ironic that this was also my very first flight with Emirates way back almost 7 years ago when I started flying. Only this time around, I’ll be the one in charge! I’m looking forward to catching up with my friend Kirsty once I’m there, and seeing her two little ones.

Next up is a quick turnaround to Tehran and back. This will be another new challenge as I’ll most likely be working in economy, and the service will have to be done quite quickly due to the length of the flight.

Then I’ve got a lovely layover in Zurich, another great destination. I’m already looking forward to some cheese fondue!

Following on from that is my ULR (ultra long range) flight for the month – Melbourne, Australia. I actually bid for Sydney to try and see my grandparents, but got Melbourne instead! Nevertheless I’ll be keeping this flight as my cousin lives there and I can’t wait to have a good catch up with her.

Lastly I have two trips which I’m very much looking forward to – home! A lovely way to round off the month, two back-to-back flights to Stansted. I’m hoping by then I’ll somehow know what I’m doing as CSV and will be able to relax at home with Mum and Dad!

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

My first time visiting Cambodia, and although it was just a 24 hour layover that flew by, I still managed to explore a little bit of this fascinating city.

Cambodia has a lot of sad history, and I would have liked to have visited some of the places that had such a huge impact on the country, such as the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum.

This layover none of the other crew wanted to visit these places, so I decided to join them on a different tour of a few places in the city instead, and will save the others for my next layover there.

After a great night’s sleep and an amazing breakfast at the hotel, we were ready to go.

A Sunny Stroll Through Munich

A couple of weeks I flew off to sunny Munich, and since my brother no longer lives there and his girlfriend was also out of town, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to head into the city.

It’s actually been a while since I’ve been into Munich city centre, so one of the girls and I jumped on the underground and were there in no time, ready for a nice walk around.

February Roster

Welcome back to another roster post! It’s a short one this month, as not only is February a shorter month, but I’m still on reserve up until the 11th.

If you saw my January roster post you’ll know I started my month of reserve on the 11th, and so far it’s been very quiet. I’ve had a couple of airport standbys where I didn’t get used, a layover in Warsaw and two turnarounds to Jeddah and back.

As you can imagine, I’m itching to get out of Dubai! I’ve still got two weeks left of reserve so I’m really hoping for a layover or two. It’s pretty hard to make any plans as you usually don’t know where you’ll be the next day until 6pm, so even things like food shopping is tricky!

Once I finish my reserve I’ve only got three rostered flights in February, and these are:

  • DFW – Dallas Fort Worth, USA
  • FRA – Frankfurt, Germany
  • MUC – Munich, Germany

Sadly nothing that I bid for, but at least they are layovers, and with the Dallas I’ll have plenty of flying hours!

Since I’m the language speaker for the German flights, I can’t swap either of those. My brother used to live in Munich but moved to Lithuania a few months ago for his pilot training, so I’m not sure what I’ll do on either of those layovers yet!
