Athens Part I

I don’t remember if I posted on here or not that I was going to Athens for a few days with my parents, however if you follow me on Instagram you will have seen lots of pictures from my lovely little getaway in the sunshine!

When Dad told me last month him and Mum were going to visit Greece for a few days, I jumped at the chance and bidded for 5 days off. It was my “top bid” month, so luckily I got the days off and promptly booked my flight.

On the morning of the flight it was all looking rather full and I didn’t think I was going to get on, but luckily someone didn’t show up at the last minute and I made it! I was meant to be meeting mum and dad at Athens airport but as their flight was cancelled they arrived a little later.

Luckily our hotel had a gorgeous rooftop bar so I sat out in the sunshine enjoying an iced coffee.

Once Mum and Dad finally arrived the sun was setting, and we were all feeling rather hungry, so headed out to find something to eat.

A trip to Petra & the Dead Sea

After my incredible holiday to Zanzibar, I still had some days of leave left. I didn’t want to stay in Dubai when I have such a great opportunity to get cheap tickets and travel, so my friend Sally and I decided spontaneously to go to Jordan!

Our plan was to visit Petra and the Dead Sea.

Our first stop was Amman airport. After a 3 hour delay due to a technical fault on the plane, and a 3 hour flight, we finally arrived!

In a bid to save a bit of money, we decided to get the public bus to Petra. After a rather squashed, very long journey, we finally arrived in Petra! Our original plan had been to visit Petra in the afternoon, but due to the flight delay and long bus journey, we were a bit later than planned.

Escape to Zanzibar

I recently came back from an amazing holiday to the beautiful island of Zanzibar!

My flatmate Kirsty and I both had some time off, and although we had originally planned to go to India to see the Taj Mahal and experience Holi festival, we couldn’t get our visas in time. So a new destination was needed, preferably somewhere neither of us had been and relatively close by. Zanzibar was the perfect choice!

We booked our tickets to Dar Es Salaam, and a 4,5 hour flight later we were there.

Once in the airport we walked outside to the tiny ticket offices to find a flight to ZNZ. The next flight was leaving in around an hour, so we handed over our money and got ready to fly on this tiny plane!

The Dubai Diaries: A Staycation Part III

This is going to be the final instalment of my mini “Staycation Series”!

As you may remember, my sister Lizzie and her boyfriend Jarett came to stay with me in Dubai. Lizzie had visited Dubai before (but not for quite a few years!) and it was Jarett’s first time visiting, so we tried to make the most of it and do/see as much as we could squeeze in!

On their last day, we decided to visit a lovely part of Dubai that we still hadn’t had time to see – the Marina!

The Marina is a really nice part of Dubai. It’s full of crazy skyscrapers, and since it’s mostly Western expats, there are lots of nice cafes, restaurants and bars. It’s also one of few “walking-friendly” areas in Dubai, as there’s a path all along the waterfront.

We strolled along enjoying the lovely sunshine, and decided to stop at Pain Quotidien for a coffee.

Jarett is ready for his coffee! ^ 😀

The Dubai Diaries: A Staycation Part II

Part 2 of Lizzie and Jarett’s stay here in Dubai is here!

After some tasty cocktails at a great little rooftop bar just across the street from mine (Level 43 Sky Lounge, at the Sheraton Four Points) we were ready for an early night.

Because we had an early start the next morning…. off to Abu Dhabi!

We decided to get the bus as although I have a Dubai driving license I still haven’t driven here and it’s only 25 dhs each way per person on the bus (around 5 Euros).

Our first stop was a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
