September Roster

It’s time for another roster post and this one will be kept very short and sweet, as believe it or not I only have one flight next month!

I’ll be ending August with a trip to Phuket, and following that a turnaround to MAA – Chennai, India. And after that, I’ll be off work for 3 weeks!

View from the cockpit somewhere on the way to Fort Lauderdale!

I have 2 weeks of unpaid leave, followed by a week of normal leave. Emirates has been offering unpaid leave every month since January and despite applying every time, it’s only now that I’ve finally got it. Plans are still being made as to where I’ll go but the options are endless….and all suggestions are welcome! Of course I’ll be keeping you updated on here and via Instagram, so stay tuned.

The last week of September I’m heading on a family holiday with my boyfriend, parents, and one of my brothers and his girlfriend to Portugal. We’ll be spending time along the coast and I can’t wait!

Lots of love and thanks as always for reading and for all of your lovely comments!

Fort Lauderdale & Miami, Florida

I was pretty happy to start the month off with a brand new destination – Fort Lauderdale, Florida! The flight over from Dubai is long, around 15 hours, but since it departs in the middle of the night most of our passengers in first class went straight to sleep. Leaving us to somehow power through and stay awake!

With plenty of tea and coffee and chats getting to know the rest of the crew, we finally made it. Approaching Florida we were greeted by these gorgeous views below, which made all of us excited to finally touch down!

Swan Lake in St Petersburg, Russia

It’s been a while since I’ve had a new destination pop up on my roster, so you can imagine how excited I was to visit the wonderful city of St Petersburg, Russia. Not only that, I was rostered to fly with my lovely friend Sebastian!

As you can imagine, we had a great flight – working with friends makes the time fly.

We touched down in St Petersburg in the afternoon, and despite having high hopes for good weather to do as much sightseeing as possible, unfortunately luck was not on our side and it was pouring with rain.

After a quick freshen up in our rooms we met again to make a plan for the afternoon. It was already starting to get late and with the rain lashing down we knew we wouldn’t be able to do as much strolling around the city as previously hoped, so having spotted a sign for the ballet in the reception, we decided to go ahead and book that.

We’d need to be back at the hotel just after 7pm for the ride to the theatre, so had a couple of hours to do a bit of sightseeing and get some dinner. Armed with a map and umbrella, we were on our way!

Sunset, Steak & Rain in Rio

If you follow me on Instagram you may well have seen that somehow I was lucky enough to swap two of my not-so-lovely night turnarounds to Mashhad and Hyderabad (both leaving at atrocious times of the night and coming back around lunchtime-ish!) for a flight to Rio de Janeiro!

Now, for anyone that is crew, you’ll know that this is a practically impossible trip to swap on to! Rio is one of our most highly desired trips, and even after bidding for it for years I’ve only been lucky enough to get it once, way back when I was still working in economy. You can read all about it here. This time around, instead of heading onwards to Buenos Aires (and then back to Rio for another day) I would be spending 30 hours in Rio and then flying back to Dubai.

I can’t lie, working in first class does have it’s perks. Whilst economy and business class were completely chockablock, we were lucky enough to just have one passenger in first! So in-between looking after him and the flight deck and helping out in economy to keep ourselves busy, the 14-hour flight went by fairly smoothly.

We touched down in Rio in the afternoon, and were welcomed by beautiful sunshine and palm trees.

August Roster

Next month it’s finally my “top bid” – the month where I should get the flights that I ask for!

I’ll be starting the month off with a couple of days off, before heading to:

  • FLL – Fort Lauderdale, USA
  • ZRH – Zurich, Switzerland
  • FLL – Fort Lauderdale, USA
  • KWI – Kuwait (turnaround)
  • RUH – Riyadh, KSA (turnaround)
  • HKT – Phuket, Thailand
  • HKT – Phuket, Thailand

So as you can guess, I did get a couple of flights that I asked for!

Fort Lauderdale is somewhere that we haven’t been flying to for very long, and new trips are always popular ones. Despite having been bidding for it for months, it’s taken me a while to finally get it! I’m happy to hear any tips you have, especially as I have two 50-hour layovers there, so will have plenty of time to explore.

I’ll hopefully head to Miami to go and do some sightseeing there, as well as whatever other recommendations you guys have for me.

Another trip to Zurich, which I can’t complain about as it’s a nice easy flight.

After that it’s back to Fort Lauderdale for some more sightseeing, and hopefully eating some super tasty Cuban food!

I have 2 turnarounds next month, KWI and RUH, but both of them are short and should hopefully be nice and quick and easy.

To finish off the month, I have two flights to Phuket! I haven’t been to Phuket in a while, and I can’t remember if it’s rainy season in August, so I’m planning to top up my tan a bit if it’s sunny. If possible I’m going to try and swap one of these for a flight to HKG to visit my friends Kirsty and Dan, and their new baby Theo.

So there we go, a new destination for me to visit (twice!) and some old favourites! 🙂
