Rockin’ Rio

I’ve just got back from probably the most amazing trip I’ve ever had. A day in Rio, quick hop to Buenos Aires for another day spent there, then back to Rio for the last 24 hours. Plenty of time to do loads of exploring and sightseeing, but no way long enough! I made sure to make the most of it though and see as much as possible!

Seeing as the trip spanned 6 days, I’ve decided to split the blog posts up so as not to overcrowd them with hundreds of pictures!

On our first evening in Rio we arrived late afternoon and 8 of us met for drinks by the pool. The sun was just setting and the hotel we stay in is right on the beach. So beautiful!

After a couple of drinks we drove to a nearby “churrascaria”, a kind of traditional barbecue restaurant. They have a huge salad buffet and you help yourself to that, and then comes the meat!

The waiters brought out skewer after skewer of delicious tender meat, everything from pork sausages to steak to chicken livers! I’ve never had so much meat in my life! All of it was cooked to perfection and deliciously seasoned as well.

After eating around half a cow each (at least it certainly felt that way!) we headed back to the hotel, all pretty exhausted having been up for around 24 hours!

The next day we were up early to sample the breakfast. Don’t ask me how I managed to eat after all that food the night before, but I had to make the most of so many yummy fresh fruits!

Four of us decided to go out for a walk along the beach. DSCN8090

Our hotel is in a great location, so we didn’t have to walk far to get there!

All along the edge of the beach were loads of little stands selling fresh coconuts, so we had to try one! The man chopped the top off for us and we sipped coconut water sitting in the sand in Rio. Paradise!

One of the girls decided to go back to the hotel after 45 minutes or so, so the three of us carried on walking along the beach.

We ended up walking along Ipanema beach and back for around 3 hours, just enjoying the beautiful weather and wishing we’d put our bikinis on! We did dip our toes into the sea though and I have to say it was pretty chilly!

Before long we realised that our wake-up calling was looming and we got back to our rooms just in time for the phone to ring. What a wonderful first day in Rio!

Next stop: Buenos Aires, Argentina!

Hi! Hope your open day went well πŸ™‚ Glad you enjoy my pictures! We do have a layover in Buenos Aires – it’s combined with a trip to Rio de Janeiro. (The most sought-after trip in the company!) Yum, I love meat so I will definitely try it next time I get a trip there! πŸ™‚

Hi!!! It was a lovely day, met a lot of people we even created a whats app group, but I didnt make it.
Its fine though, I have to keep on trying, we were about 300 and only 9 were left, there was a girl that made to the FI for Qatar, and you wouldnt beliebe it but she made it also for Emirates, thats clearly a huge YES you were born for this. I did a huge sacrifice in roder to be there, the good thing is that I live near Chile (Mendoza, beautiful place, mountains all over) so I can go to Buenos Aires or Chile to apply for another airline as well! I will keep on reading your blog, is awesome and educative!

Thanks a lot for remember me!!!

        Cya!

I am not sure what are they looking for, I do have a more technical work experience (IT) but that’s not what i love.

Aw never mind, well done for getting that far anyway. And yes, do keep trying, think positive and positive things will happen! You never really know what they are looking for to be honest, sometimes I think it is a big matter of luck on the day as well. Wow I bet it’s beautiful where you live, I would love to visit Chile one day! Good luck for the future πŸ™‚

When you fly to Saudi Arabia do you have to wear pants? Is there any other countries you fly to where you have to wear different uniform to be more covered up etc?

    • October 4, 2014 / 12:42 pm

No, the only girls that wear trousers are the CSAs (Cabin service attendants, in charge of the shower spa in first class). We don’t actually leave the plane in Saudi as it’s only a short flight there and back!

Wow, a 6 days trip, how exiting! I guess it’s a long flight to Rio, isn’t it? How much rest do the crew get on 15/16 flights? Sounds pretty scary the idea of constantly working for so many hours ahaha thanks for sharing :))

    • October 4, 2014 / 12:40 pm

It was an awesome trip! πŸ™‚ Yeah around 14 hours each way! I think we got around 4 hours rest, it’s always a much needed break! Haha yeah it can be pretty daunting but luckily you’re not working non-stop πŸ™‚

How long does it take to become a purser at emirates? Do you have to be first class trained Etc first?

    • October 4, 2014 / 12:39 pm

It totally depends on what they need, but minimum I’d say is probably about 5 years. It usually takes longer though. Once you’re in business class you can either go to first class and then to senior flight stewardess (SFS) and then purser. You could also skip first class and go straight to SFS and purser if you wanted to! πŸ™‚
