Tea at the Waldorf

Right after I landed from San Francisco, I had two very special guests come to stay… Mum and Dad!

They were on their way to Australia to visit my grandparents and decided to stop over in Dubai for a couple of days to break up the journey a little.

As a pre-Christmas treat, I took them to afternoon tea. I chose the Waldorf as it’s on the Palm, so it has a great view over Dubai.

I’d made a reservation to make sure they had enough scones for us (what’s an afternoon tea without scones after all!) but there was barely anyone else there, so this wasn’t really necessary.

We were taken to our table on the terrace, overlooking the hotel’s garden and pool area.

There were three types of afternoon tea to choose from; The “London”, “Parisien” and a special Christmas one. We decided on one of each!

On one side we could see the Palm, on the other side we looked over to Dubai Marina.

We chose our teas, and out came a huge trolley covered in all sorts of pots of tea!

After our tea was poured out came the huge stands with all sorts of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and scones!

We also got a selection of jams, and a deliciously refreshing fruit salad.

Mum liked the look of this strawberry tart!

After eating more than our fair share, we wandered down to the gardens for a stroll.

The sun was setting and it was even getting a little chilly! (Chilly in Dubai is anything under 25 degrees….;) )

After a walk along the beach it was time to head back home for a sit down to let all of that food digest!

All in all a very lovely afternoon at a beautiful hotel, and a most delicious afternoon tea!

Thanks for coming to stay, Mum and Dad!

Hi! Not at all, just as long as you smile it doesn’t matter if your teeth aren’t perfect! Yes it was so lovely, I’ll definitely be back! 🙂

Hi Rachel! I’ve just gotten my OH email for Emirates and am really getting excited to be joining! It’s so nice that your parents can come down and visit – I’m curious about what discounts/benefits there are for the families and friends of crew members…I’ve heard many different things, seems clear that parents get some perks but what about friends (ie. my boyfriend 😉 )?

I know I’ll get these answers from Emirates directly eventually but I haven’t been able to resist thinking about everything lately! 🙂

Love reading your blog btw 😉

Congratulations! So you can get heavily discounted tickets for immediate family (parents, siblings, husband) which are on standby (where you only get on the flight if there is a spare seat) and you can get around half off for other family members (cousins etc) and also for non-family members such as your boyfriend. However the “special tickets” as they are called are not always readily available and you can only use 15 of them a year. (Although so far Ive only used 2!) On the plus side though these ones are confirmed 🙂 Do you know when you’ll be moving to Dubai?

Thanks for your response! I wish I knew when I was moving! I’m on hold until mid-feb…so hopefully sometime not too late after that! I’d love to get there before it gets too hot! haha 🙂 Any tips for making the long wait easier??
