June Roster

I thought I’d just pop up a quick post with my roster for June in case anyone is interested in where I’ll be flying to next month! πŸ™‚

I’m ending this month with a nice week of leave, which carries on into the beginning of June. I’m currently at home in Austria for a few days, and then I’m going to go to Oman with my flatmate Kirsty, one of her last trips before she leaves Dubai!

After that I’ll be going to:

  • Dhaka, Bangladesh (turnaround – 5 hours each way!)
  • Frankfurt
  • Venice
  • Chennai, India (turnaround)
  • Hyderabad, India (turnaround)
  • Munich
  • Hong Kong

As you can see I’m back on the 777 this month, for all of my flights except Munich, which is on the A380.

I wonder how many months in a row I’ve been rostered Munich now?!

I’m looking forward to going to Venice, as it’s been years since I last visited. Not only that, Mum & Dad and my sister Lizzie and her boyfriend Jarett are all coming to meet me there!

P.s. Follow me on Instagram & Twitter for more day-to-day updates of what’s going on in my life!

Hi there! Wow, congrats on getting the job, how exciting!! I was the same as you, checking that page every single day hahaha! Also my FI was so stressy, I had no idea what to answer for most of the questions and I’m pretty sure I made half of it up haha! Luckily I didn’t have to wait quite as long as you (only 2 weeks!) so I’m not sure how you managed 10 weeks! You’ll have to keep me updated and let me know when they give you a joining date πŸ™‚

hi Rachel i really enjoyed reading your travel diary. my dream is to become Emirates flight attendant as well, but I have a little chineese sign tattoo on my forehead (reckless decission from many years ago). do you think that could be a problem? I can make it almost invisible covering it with my make-up. and I think all the passengers would enjoy looking at it as well. thanks for your reply πŸ™‚

    • June 23, 2015 / 9:11 pm

Hi there, thanks for reading πŸ™‚ Well, no visible tattoos are allowed…so you’d have to either get it lasered off or lie about it, which I’m obviously not suggesting, haha!

hallo Rachel, perfect blog. could you please tell us how many crew members are on board during a A380 flight? and boeing 777 to compare.
    I mean economy + business + 1st + pilots
vielen dank πŸ™‚ und vielleicht bekommst du so viele Munich Fluege weil du auch Deutsch sprichst, oder?

    • June 23, 2015 / 9:10 pm

Hi, thanks for reading! There are usually 15 crew on the 777 and 26 on the A380! Sometimes a couple more on long-haul flights and sometimes a couple less if the load is light!
Ja genau, ich habe 6 Jahre in Γ–sterreich gewohnt und dort Deutsch gelernt πŸ™‚

To be honest I’m not really sure which other airlines are the best, I know the middle eastern ones all have a minimum age requirement of 21. I’m not sure about BA but give it a try! Good luck πŸ™‚

    Hello Rachel,

It’s been some time I’m following your blog and your career as cabin crew at EK. you make me dream so much! Your stories are so funny and your rosters are envying ^^

So I gave it a try!! Hehe After applying online I went to an open day yesterday and got through all the day. Incredible haha wasn’t expecting going so far at all! Today I’m even more stressed as I will have my final interview!! The recruiter was so kind during the whole day, but I really don’t know how to imagine the one to one interview … Let’s see πŸ˜€

I wish you many more happy flights at EK, and maybe I’ll meet you some day ^^ *fingers crossed*

Hey Rachel, I think my frightening countdown has started! πŸ˜› I got my golden call! OMG I’m currently traveling through the USA for 7 weeks, and I got my call over here (even though they called me on Belgian time, which made it 2AM where I was haha).
But now I feel like there are so many more thing to do (that I can’t do as I’m thousands km away from home >.< so I hope it won't affect anything) and it's getting scarier day by day :-O
My DOJ is only 5 February, but I'm so looking forward to it as much as I don't want to leave my beloved family.
And one more time, I want to thank you for writing your blog! It was so motivational to me πŸ™‚
Maybe I'll see you one day on a flight haha ^^

        • November 3, 2015 / 5:32 pm

Yay, congratulations!! I remember feeling like I had so much to do and so little time, but I’m sure you’ll manage! You still have 3 months to go, plenty of time πŸ™‚ So glad my blog could help you. See you in the skies! πŸ™‚

    Hi Rachel,

Your blog has really helped me understand the life of a flight attendant and I am so happy to have found it! I have always wanted to become a flight attendant but I never thought I could actually do it. I’m going into my last ever year of school and I’ll be taking exams which determine the uni I get into.. I want to do a bachelor of arts in applied languages (German, Spanish, TEFL and Japanese) but I’m not sure if that is the best course to have for my CV when I eventually/hopefully apply to become a flight attendant!

I read that a second language is desirable so maybe it will? Would you recommend any other type of course to advance in?

Sorry for such a long message!

    Keep up the great work!

    • June 18, 2015 / 9:57 pm

Hi there! Thanks so much for reading! Good luck for your last year of school and final exams. To be honest any second language is a plus, so just choose whatever is the most appealing to you really. I’d say work experience is equally as important so maybe you can try and get a part time job in the hospitality sector during uni! x

Love the blog! Do you find that working business class makes your job a lot easier now? Do you prefer it to economy ? πŸ™‚ I am currently on hold with Emirates and am so excited to get my GC.

    • June 18, 2015 / 9:53 pm

Thanks for reading πŸ™‚ Yeah I do find it a lot easier, mainly because you have less passengers to serve. Sometimes I miss economy though πŸ˜‰ Good luck for your golden call!

Thank you so much for your response, just the motivation I need to stick to it and get to business class! I’ve had my golden call and fly out in September.

Hi Rachel, youΒ΄ll be responsible for not passing my school exams πŸ˜€ Once I started reading your blog I had to read it all from the very beginning in 2012! And found out thatΒ΄s the life I wanna live as well πŸ™‚

    • June 18, 2015 / 9:52 pm

Hahaha please don’t fail your exams! So glad you enjoyed reading my blog πŸ™‚

    Hi Rachel,

I love reading your blog and it inspired me to become a flight attendant. I got my golden call about 2 weeks ago and I am so excited to join Emirates. I was wondering, when you travel abroad, do you have a data plan to call your family and friends or do you only use wifi. I was considering getting an international mobile plan from the states before I leave. That way, I can connect anywhere. Have you heard of anyone that has done that?

    • June 18, 2015 / 9:49 pm

Thanks so much for reading and congrats on getting your golden call! πŸ™‚ I only use wifi when I’m abroad. I’m sure there are people who have international plans but almost all of the hotels we stay at have free wifi so I don’t find it necessary! πŸ™‚

Hi, love your blog! I was just wondering how long the Hong Kong to Dubai flight (381) has been a B777 rather than the A380? I take it quite regularly and it used to be on the A380 (which I love!) but now it is on the B777. Taking it again the last week of June.

    • June 4, 2015 / 3:43 pm

Hi, thanks for reading! Sorry I have no idea haha! Aircraft get switched over all the time, I know sometimes the HKG flight is on the A340 as well! I’ll be flying out to HKG at the end of June as well, maybe see you on the plane πŸ™‚

You’re honestly my favorite blog and a huge inspiration and I’m going to be applying to hopefully become cabin crew for emirates in the upcoming year, i was wondering when you get the time can you please do a post showing us how you pack and your essentials including your do’s and donts to packing.

Only when you get the time though πŸ™‚

    Thanks

Hi Rizz, thanks so much for reading πŸ™‚ Yeah I’ll definitely do that, I’ve been meaning to do a sort of “what’s in my suitcase” post for a while now!

Hi Rachel! I love your blog, I’ll attend an OD in one month and because of reading it I’m getting more and more excited! I would like to ask you something: I’ve read somewhere that the skirt of the business attire to attend the interview process has to cover the knee. Do you think that it would be a problem if I wear an skirt above the knee? Thank you very much! And keep writing ! ;D

    • June 4, 2015 / 3:39 pm

Hi there, thanks so much for reading! πŸ™‚ Hm well I’d say it should be around knee-length, maybe not completely covering but definitely not too short! Just go for a smart business look and it will be perfect! Good luck πŸ™‚

agree with Natalia! that would make a really interesting post! please πŸ™‚ i thought bangladesh was always a layover for you guys?? 5 hours seems so horrific!

    • June 4, 2015 / 3:35 pm

For some reason there are 2 flights a day to Dhaka but only one of them is a layover! Maybe one day I’ll get to stay there and explore a bit. I agree, it’s such a long flight!

wow! is this the first time u r flying into hyderabad? I would have suggested some interesting places if u had a layover here!!

    • June 4, 2015 / 3:33 pm

No I’ve done the flight before, but it’s always a turnaround so we never get any time to explore unfortunately!

Which you prefer 777 or A380? I’m aviation geek at heart, but want to know which jet you like better :). Btw, I enjoyed my first class ride from LAX-DXB, but oh boy, i lost track of how many 2004 dom drinks I chug -_-

    • May 31, 2015 / 5:44 pm

That’s a tricky question haha! When I worked in economy I loved the 777 as it’s so much more crew friendly, however since I’ve been in business class I really enjoy being on the A380. So at the moment I’d probably say I prefer the A380, which I never thought I’d say!
How did you like the flight from LAX?! Such a long one, although flying first class isn’t too terrible πŸ˜‰

Hi πŸ™‚ I have to say, I just love your blog, it is making me more strong and more confident to apply as a cabin crew… I wanted to ask you if it is possible to make a post about what positions do you have as a cabin crew in a plane, because most people really thinks that it is just about serving and thatΒ΄s it… But I would like to know how it really works, who is doing what on a plane, how is the work divided, if you can talk about it of course. Thank you very much, Natalia.
