August Roster

I know I do these posts every month now, but I hope you guys still find them interesting to read!

Next month I’ve got a not so busy month, although as always I’ll probably end up swapping one or two of these flights!

I’ll be heading off to:

  • DAC (Dhaka, Bangladesh….and this time I’ll be staying over instead of just doing the turnaround!)
  • Leave – I’ll be heading over to England for my lovely ex-flatmate Kirsty’s wedding, very exciting! I’ll also be catching up with my best friend Lucy, fingers crossed the flights are nice and empty and the stand-by gods are good to me!
  • JFK (24 hour layover)
  • LHE (a quick turnaround to Pakistan)
  • ZRH
  • JFK (30 hour layover)

I’m already on swap shop trying to get rid of at least one of my JFK’s – I can’t handle 2 long haul flights in a month anymore, especially as the first one is only a 24 hour layover!

I’ll also try and swap my Zurich, as I’ve just been there this month. Who know’s where I’ll end up!

P.s. Follow me on Instagram & Twitter for more day-to-day updates of where I am in the world! ๐Ÿ™‚

I understood the difference; however, I didn’t know it all right to describe
    the difference!

    Hi Rachel,

    I love your blog,

I was wondering that if you have 6 destinations/ roster per month, it means you only work 6 days? or you have same destinations but you fly multiple times?

    All the best.

Hi there, thanks for reading! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well I guess you could see it like that, but in reality it’s a bit different! If I have a layover, for example let’s say London – I go to the flight 2 hours early, do the flight (7 hours flying time roughly) then have 24 hours in the hotel in London, then fly back to Dubai, another 7 hours or so. That means one destination takes up around 3 days on my roster ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope that helps clarify a bit!

Would you be able to do a post on which destinations are turn arounds and which are layovers. I know that flights 4 hours and under are turn arounds, but what about a flight which is say 4 hours and 30?

    • August 23, 2015 / 12:35 am

It really depends on the flight…say a Dhaka (Bangladesh) is 4 hrs 30, we have 2 flights a day and one is a turnaround and one a layover! So there are definitely some longer turnarounds (Istanbul, Athens, Nairobi…all around 4-5 hrs each way) and then you have some layovers which are very similar flight times!

Which region of the world(Europe /asia etc) do u like/prefer travelling the most?

    • August 23, 2015 / 12:33 am

Tough question! One I don’t think I can answer…I love Europe in summer, I love certain places in Asia, America, South Africa..impossible to pick a favourite! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hello,
can I ask you a question regarding teeth? I am following a lot of crew instagram accounts and everyone seem to have really perfect teeth. Is there anyone in your airline at all who hasn’t got an american smile? ๐Ÿ™‚ I am just wondering because I have one tooth that is not perfectly in line with the others.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Hi there! Trust me, by no means does everyone have perfect teeth! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello Rachel, are ya’ll allowed to take selfies with celebrities and famous people on flights?

    • August 13, 2015 / 3:12 pm

Hi there! Hm tricky question….it depends really if the person allows it or not! I have a picture with Pelรฉ from when he was on my flight to Sao Paolo, but some celebs are very private and don’t want any pictures taken!

Hi Rachel! Great blog you have here. I think these posts are interesting, keep up the good work! Any luck switching out your flights?

    • August 13, 2015 / 3:09 pm

Thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately I only managed to get rid of one JFK – going to Dusseldorf instead which is a new destination for me! Couldn’t get rid of the Zurich though, never mind! ๐Ÿ™‚

Just wondering how you go about swapping flights. Is it difficult?

    • August 13, 2015 / 2:00 pm

We have a swap system on our crew portal, you can advertise flights to “give away” or try and send swaps for flights that you’d like.

Hi ๐Ÿ™‚ I came across your blog a few days ago and I can say I’ve managed to read most of it .. I’m thinking of applying for Emirates so it’s pretty handy ๐Ÿ˜€ I do have one question and I hope you won’t think of it as a rude one. I noticed that you do a lot of sightseeing and if I had a chance I would also like to visit all of those places where you have been. If I can ask you is your allowance enough for all that (not including shopping)?

    • August 13, 2015 / 2:00 pm

Hi there! Glad you enjoy reading my blog ๐Ÿ™‚ The allowance is normally more than enough for sightseeing and eating out, and I usually manage to squeeze in some shopping as well! Obviously it depends on the city and whether you have to take public transport or if you can walk from the crew hotel, but it’s usually plenty ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck!
