Marvellous Mauritius

I was lucky enough to finally be rostered another flight to Mauritius! It had been over a year since I last visited and I was so happy to get the chance to re-visit the beautiful island I fell in love with last time.

The flight was nice and easy, busy but not too long. After around 6 hours we arrived in MRU just as the sun was setting. It was already dark by the time we arrived at the hotel but I could still see the pool and ocean glistening from the lobby!

The hotel does a great dinner buffet, so we sat down to some delicious Mauritian food and had a relaxing evening.

The hotel is actually more of a resort and some of the rooms are spread out pretty far, you can even get a lift on a golf buggy if the walk is too much for you!

My room had a beautiful view of the ocean and all the lovely palm trees. It was the best feeling waking up on the first day of my birthday month and being greeted by the sound of waves crashing and the breeze blowing through the trees!

First things first of course, breakfast! How can you resist breakfast overlooking the ocean, even if a tropical rainstorm appears just as you’re sipping your cappuccino?!

The plan had been to relax on the beach and possibly take out a kayak for a spin (the hotel offers free watersports!) but the rain had other plans. Luckily the sun popped back out for a while which was the perfect opportunity for a wander around the resort.

There are more than enough beaches and we even saw a couple getting married later on in the afternoon!

We made our way down to the sun-loungers on the beach, books in hand, ready for some relaxation.

As you can probably tell, the clouds were in and out all day! The weather changed from beautifully hot and sunny one minute, to breezy and rainy the next.

I did attempt a little swim in the sea but the water was absolutely freezing! (Probably not as cold as the sea in England…but still!)

We had plenty of time to relax on the beach though, even if I had the towel wrapped around me most of the time instead of lying on it!

Before I knew it, wake up call was looming so I had a little snack and a quick snooze before the night flight home.

Keep your fingers crossed for me – I bid for 5 days off next month as some friends are getting married in Mauritius and I’d love to go back and explore some more of this gorgeous island!

Hi Rachel!:) Im currently working as cabin crew on Emirates.(GR2) I usually read your blog and u looks so energetic, always enjoying and making the most of your layovers. Since I came to DXB, I really feel sick all the time. I have sinus and ear problems, cronic constipation, sleeping problems despite Im eating healthy, I dont smoke, drink any alcohol and I try to work out when I am not exhausted due to work. I would appreciate if u can give me any tips since I barely go out on layovers because I always feel very tired and sick and most of the times I stay in the hotel trying to recover for the next flight.. I am not enjoying this lifestyle as my friends do, and it’s such a shame.. 🙁 Any help wold be very welcome! Thanks in advance xx

Hi! Is it possible to study while working as cabin crew? What if crew wants to pursue further education like a masters in aviation management – something like that?

Yes, definitely possible! You have to be dedicated and really study on your layovers, but lots of crew do it.

Will taking a cabin crew course help me get the job? Say for example, the IATA certification for Airline Cabin Crew Training?

    • October 23, 2015 / 6:15 pm

Honestly, I don’t think it will make much difference. You’ll have to go through the training for the airline anyway regardless of whether you’ve done a course or not, so some customer service experience would probably be more beneficial!

Hi, serious question. Do I get a certificate if I am on the first A380 flight from Copenhagen to Dubai?
