Beach days in Mauritius

I was lucky enough to be rostered two flights to Mauritius this month, and since I’ve already spent a couple of holidays there and seen a lot of the beautiful sights that the country has to offer, I knew they would be the perfect chance to relax on the beach!

We arrived just as the sun was beginning to set, and unfortunately by the time we got to our beautiful resort it was already beginning to get dark. Most of the crew met for a cocktail at the bar, and then we enjoyed the huge buffet dinner spread, before calling it a night.

The next morning I set my alarm just in time to wake up for the sunrise – I was hoping for a beautiful pink sky, which I didn’t see, but it was nevertheless a great start to the day.

I lay out on my terrace, listening to the sound of the birds chirping and gentle waves crashing.

After another couple of hours in bed, I made my over to the breakfast buffet and enjoyed platefuls of fresh fruit, sitting under the palm trees and sipping on a cappuccino. Bliss!

My plan for the day was pretty much to relax on the beach, read my book, and that’s about it! My boyfriend’s mum and sister came to the hotel to pick up a few things he’d sent with me, and his mum had even prepared a delicious Mauritian curry for me to take back on the plane!

From my room I could walk just a few meters down to the beach, so I grabbed my things and took up my spot for the afternoon.

The beach spot I chose was a secluded little area, and I was the only one on it! The resort we stay at is pretty big, and has quite a few different beaches to choose from. They also offer free watersports, but since it’s actually winter in Mauritius, the water isn’t too warm at the moment.

I did however spot a few local fishermen out fishing along the rocky areas of the beach.

I hope you’re ready for some more pictures of white sand and palm trees, because that’s pretty much what this post is all about!

The only sound other than the waves crashing was the occasional roar of a jet engine, as the hotel isn’t too far from the airport. Of course every time a plane flew over I couldn’t help but stare into the sky!

After a few hours of reading and sunbathing (although it wasn’t quite hot enough to get my bikini out – around 24 degrees and cloudy) I decided to have a stroll around the grounds. I bumped into a few of the other crew who were also relaxing on the beach, and continued walking along the sand.

I just love the shadow of the palm trees on the sand in this picture!

After a fairly long walk all the way around the grounds of the hotel, I made my way back to my room to have a bite to eat and sit on the lounger on the terrace for a while. I was waiting for the afternoon Emirates flight to take off so I could spot the huge A380, and you definitely can’t miss the sound!

There was just time for a quick nap before the overnight flight home, and I managed to catch the beginning of the sunset, which left the sky and palm trees with a beautiful pink tinge.

Thanks for a wonderfully relaxing stay Mauritius – I’ll be back next week!

Thanks so much Dixie! It’s beautiful, and I’m lucky to have a boyfriend from there so don’t even need an excuse to visit, haha! I’m just about to check out your Bali posts now, that’s somewhere else that’s been on the top of my list for a while! xx

    Hi!

I was wondering how often you are able to get a “vacation”, where you could fly to a country of your choice and how long is the duration of a typical getaway? Do cabin crew typically fly a long distance for one of these getaways or do you stay within a 3-4 hour flight time? How many days of leave do you get a year and can you use all of the days in a row or do they have to be split into different periods?

    Thanks!

Hi there! So we have 30 days leave a year, which you can split up into shorter blocks (between 5-15 days at a time). So if you wanted to go somewhere further away e.g. South America you could request 10 days leave. It totally depends on what each crew wants to do – I usually have a mix of going on holidays or going home! Some people like to use their leave to travel to different countries as much as possible, some like to go home every time, it’s your choice! 🙂 x
