Turning 25 in Mauritius

On the day of my birthday, I was whisked away to a beautiful hotel in the lovely seaside town of Flic-en-Flac, in the Black River region. We checked in around lunch time, and were greeted with a deliciously refreshing coconut and mint mocktail.

The weather was perfect, beautiful sunshine and a lovely temperature. I couldn’t wait to get on the beach!

We were shown to our gorgeous room, and the ever so lovely staff had prepared the bed with a “Happy Birthday” and lots of flowers, and a few minutes later they came by with a tropical fruit platter!

Stepping out onto the balcony, we couldn’t believe the gorgeous view straight out to the ocean, as well as the infinity pool surrounded by endless palm trees.

As soon as we’d put our stuff away, it was straight down to the beach! We made ourselves comfy on some sun loungers under a palm tree, slathered on the suncream and spent the afternoon in 100% relax mode.

The hotel offers all sorts of free watersports, so once we’d had enough of sunbathing, we made our way over to the watersport area and got ready to do some exercise. (Well, if sitting in a kayak can count as exercise…)

We spent a couple of hours out on the water kayaking and paddle boarding (I stuck firmly to the kayak, paddle boards are far too wobbly for me!) and enjoying the glorious weather. It’s still pretty hot to stay at the beach for too long in Dubai so it was amazing to be able to stay out in the sunshine on the water.

We also made our way over to one of the lovely pools, although the water wasn’t quite warm enough to swim for too long!

Before long the sun began to set, and we walked back down to the beach to watch the beautiful sunset.

We made our way back to the room to change for a special birthday dinner, passing by the incredible infinity pool again, made even more gorgeous by the reflection from the setting sun.

Joe had arranged a surprise for dinner, so we made our way to the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail, and were then taken to the restaurant.

Instead of being seated amongst everyone else, we were led onto the sand just metres from the ocean where a beautiful table had been set up with flowers and candles, just for us!

We were served a delicious 3 course meal, accompanied by a lovely bottle of champagne. You only turn 25 once, after all! 😉

After a wonderful evening, including a surprise birthday cake being brought out and the band singing “Happy Birthday” to me, we called it a night.

The next morning we made sure to enjoy the extensive breakfast buffet (I’m not sure quite how after the amazing dinner the night before!) before heading back down to the beach again.

Although check-out was at 12, we were free to use all of the facilities as long as we wanted, including the free watersports on the beach.

Joe and I borrowed a kayak and paddle board again and stayed out on the water for a while, and then had a lovely stroll along the beach. It goes for miles and there are a few hotels along the same stretch, although all of the beaches in Mauritius are public.

We stayed relaxing on the beach for the rest of the afternoon, a wonderful end to an amazing birthday surprise! Thank you Joe! 🙂

A very Happy Belated birthday to you!!! Yes, you are 25 only once!!! you are now a whole quarter century old!!! You are very lucky to have your present bf!! Don’t know his name, but he does seem to be a keeper!!! Treat him well!! He certainly went out of his way to treat you like his British royalty in his native Mauritius, the choice was exquisite ….indeed a very beautiful country. I was hoping to see a rock in one of the pictures as well but may be not this time…..hopefully before your 30th????
