Afternoon Tea at The Palace, Downtown Dubai

A few weeks ago, my mum popped over to Dubai for a quick visit. We have a little tradition that whenever she comes to Dubai, we splash out on a delicious afternoon tea!

This time we chose The Palace Downtown, which we have been to before. We actually used to get 50% discount with our Emirates card but unfortunately the discount has gone down to 20% now which is a shame!

Mum and I arrived a little early, so strolled around Dubai Mall first, and took a few pictures out by the fountain lake. The weather was a bit crazy with lots of stormy days and rain, which was not exactly what mum was hoping for!

We crossed the bridge over from Dubai Mall to Souk Al Bahar, which is a nice area with lots of restaurants overlooking the fountains.

The Palace hotel is located just next door to Souk Al Bahar, and the afternoon tea is served in the Al Bayt lounge just off the lobby.

We entered the stunning lobby, full of beautiful fresh flowers, and despite being a bit early were shown to our seats on the terrace. The view was wonderful, looking out of the hotel pool and palm trees, as well as straight on to the Burj Khalifa.

Last time our afternoon tea was served on a tiered stand, however this time it was displayed as a lovely buffet. We could help ourselves to as many sandwiches, savouries, scones and cakes as we wanted!

Of course we started with the savoury options, including all sorts of delicious mini sandwiches, as well as a few warm pastries and chilled prawns.

We were also served unlimited tea, as well as a welcome lime and mint mocktail. Very refreshing!

Whilst enjoying our scones with plenty of clotted cream, strawberry jam and piles of fresh strawberries, we watched the changing moody skies and thunder start to roll in! The temperature was still balmy and it hadn’t started to rain yet, and luckily we were sitting under cover on the terrace!

After a couple of delicious hours feasting and drinking cups of tea, it was time to head back over to the Dubai Mall to watch the fountain show. Not before a little walk through the front entranceway to The Palace Hotel, and a look at the traditional architecture surrounding the area.

Mum and I strolled back over to the Dubai Mall, and headed upstairs to get a better view of the fountains. We couldn’t sit outside though as it started to absolutely pour with rain, and there were big crashes of thunder and lightening! It certainly made for a very dramatic backdrop to the Dubai Fountains!

Thanks for coming along to afternoon tea with me!
