Sleepless in Seattle

It was my third time flying back to Seattle, a city that I love visiting. As usual it was a fairly long flight from Dubai, and despite a full cabin in first class, we weren’t kept too busy.

I was able to admire some of the beautiful scenery out of the window along the way, definitely one of my favourite things about these long US flights!

We also got a great view of the city and surrounding area on approach into Seattle, which was lovely.

Despite the 12 hour time difference between Seattle and Dubai, and having been awake for many, many hours, all of us wanted to head out and make the most of the afternoon once we arrived.

It was the first time for quite a few of the crew (read about my previous trips here and here) so a big group of us walked down towards the waterfront to check out Pike Place Market. A must-do when in Seattle!

My favourite area of the market is of course the beautiful flower stalls, filled with gorgeous bouquets and incredible flower arrangements.

Since the others hadn’t seen the gum wall, we wandered down to check it out. Despite the city’s best cleaning efforts, the gum wall keeps on coming back and it’s still as gross as ever!

Starting to feel a bit peckish, we found a restaurant and sat down for an early dinner, before strolling back to the hotel for an early night.

The next morning, after having been awake half the night (thanks jet lag!) a group of us met in the lobby for a day of exploring. We’d booked a tour with a guy called Alex who would take us around and show us some of the best bits of Seattle.

First up was the Boeing Factory, but along the way we passed by a lovely viewpoint with a view out across the city and had a quick stop for a picture.

Sadly the Boeing Factory doesn’t allow pictures inside – you have to leave all of your belongings in lockers at the entrance, so I don’t really have any pictures to share with you!

I must say though, it was very interesting and I loved seeing how all of the Boeing aircraft are built.

Our next stop was wine tasting at Chateau Ste Michelle, Washington’s oldest winery. Alex had prepared a lovely picnic lunch for us, which we enjoyed outside in the grounds of the winery.

After lunch we were shown around by a tour guide, and got to sample a small selection of different wines.

Again, I don’t have many pictures to share as I was enjoying the wine tour!

Next up on our tour was Snoqualmie Falls, a 268-foot (81 metres) waterfall on the Snoqualmie River.

While not quite as impressive as Niagara Falls, it was still pretty big! The amount of spray coming off the falls was also not bad, and we had to stand pretty far back to avoid getting soaked.

Since the area is surrounded by woodland, we went for a walk through the trees which was lovely.

The Falls were featured in a TV series called Twin Peaks, which I’d never watched (or even heard of for that matter!) but there’s also a cafe fairly close by that was featured on the show that you can visit.

Having had quite a long day already, we decided to head back to the hotel and ended the tour with a beautiful sunset along the way.

Once again, a lovely trip to Seattle, and I’m happy I got to see some new parts of the city that I hadn’t seen before!

Great city. I visited it a lot 20 years ago but the memories are fresh.
