Flying a Boeing Sim in Dubai!

A few months ago, I was very kindly invited by TFT Aero to come down to their simulator and experience flying, as a pilot! I’ve been cabin crew for almost 9 years now, so I’m fairly familiar with the cockpit, however I’ve never actually tried flying the plane myself.

As you can imagine, I was super excited to try flying… and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks! TFT Aero have a Boeing 737 Sim, so whilst it’s a different aircraft to the 777’s we have at Emirates, the cockpit is similar. Don’t ask me for any technical details though as I’m definitely no expert!

I was invited to bring a friend, so I took along my friend Sally to experience the Sim. She loved it just as much as I did!

Once we arrived at the simulator in JBR, the pilots welcomed us and showed us to the Sim, which they’d built completely themselves. Extremely impressive!

I was first to try flying, and I had the choice of hundreds of airports to choose where to take off from, so of course I had to pick my home airport, London Stansted! I was sat in the captain’s seat on the left, hoping that somehow I’d know what to do!

Luckily everything was explained to us very well, and I felt confident I’d be able to take off. With some help from my first officer, we had a successful take-off!

We flew through some rather turbulent weather, trying to avoid the clouds, and it honestly felt just like being on the plane!

Once I managed to successfully land (luckily everyone had their seatbelts on tightly… haha!) I only had a slight detour from the runway and slid onto the grass at the edge a bit; turns out steering the plane isn’t easy either!

After I finished flying, we swapped seats and Sally took over. She flew through the Austrian mountains, which was amazing. The simulator has all sorts of different airports programmed in and it really felt like we were flying over the luscious green countryside.

She was also much better than me, and managed to land without any sliding off the runway!

We absolutely loved trying out the sim, however I don’t think I’ll be making the switch from cabin crew to pilot any time soon! If you’re interested in checking it out, have a look at TFT Aero’s website here to see the different options on offer. Thank you so much to Alex and the team, we absolutely loved trying out the Sim!
