Part two of my 6-day trip took me to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
We arrived pretty late in the evening, and after checking in headed down to the hotel bar to sample some Argentinian wine!
We were up early the next morning and after breakfast decided to get the hop-on hop-off bus around the city. Only one of the girls had been to Buenos Aires before, so it was the perfect way to get to see the city.
The guide on the bus recommended a few places for us to get off and see, and our first stop was the “La Recoleta” Cemetery. It is home to the graves of many famous Argentinians, such as Eva Perón, presidents of Argentina, and a granddaughter of Napoleon. On the way there the bus passed by plenty of statues and sights.
We got out at the cemetery and the sun was shining beautifully. There was actually a funeral going on so we did feel a bit like we were intruding, but luckily there were so many other people just visiting and walking around.
The inside of the cemetery is actually more like a small village. All of the graves are huge mausoleums, and lots of them had up to 10 coffins inside!
After consulting the map at the entrance we finally found Eva Perón’s grave tucked away in a little side “street”.
The cemetery was very impressive and definitely a must-do for anyone that visits Buenos Aires.
Next on our list was the area called La Boca, and more specifically the street called Caminito. We drove past some beautiful buildings and architecture on our way there.
We got out at the football club of the Boca Juniors, known as La Bombonera. Knowing nothing about football, this wasn’t very exciting for me, but the boys loved it!
From here it was only a short walk past all of the gorgeous colourful houses to Caminito.
We wandered along the street soaking in the atmosphere. Everywhere we turned someone dressed in a tango outfit tried to make us pose for a picture (which we would have had to pay for) or come into their restaurant.
Realising we should probably have something to eat before our flight that afternoon, we decided on a restaurant that had tango dancers up on a little stage!
We got roped into having a picture with them, but the man came to within about a centimetre of my face so it was impossible to keep a straight face!
All too soon we realised time was running out and we didn’t want the flight to Rio to leave without us! We got back onto the bus and drove through some more beautiful areas of the city.
Driving past the water and all of the shiny buildings actually reminded me of Dubai a bit! The rest of the city (at least in the parts we visited) has a very European feel to it and I loved it. It was also great being able to use my Spanish!
We got back to the hotel just in time for the wake-up call, and drove to the airport as the sun was setting across the city. A beautiful ending to a lovely day in Argentina!

Love your blog! The photos are amazing 🙂 I’m considering applying and I was wondering if the salary is decent to live comfortably in Dubai or is it hard to get by with?

Thank you! 🙂 The first couple of months while you’re in training college it’s not very much but you can get by, however once you start flying it’s more than enough to get by! I even manage to save a fair bit every month.
A belated Happy Birthday! Rio and Buenos Aires look amazing (sigh) hopefully Emirates will add new South American destinations soon. Have you decided yet where you want to go on birthday leave?
And… I wanted to thank you for your blog about the assesment day and the interview. I went to an invitation only day last week and, thanks to your tips, made it to the FI!! Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the GC…
