It’s that time of the month again…my December roster has been published! It was my “bottom bid” this month, so I wasn’t expecting too much.
In fact I really should be studying for my upcoming exams but instead I’m procrastinating and writing my blog!
In December I’ll be heading to:
- ATH (Athens turnaround – a very long day!)
- SEP (2 full days of Safety & Emergency procedures – my yearly exams)
- BOM (Bombay turnaround)
- MUC (Munich – can’t wait for the Christmas market!)
- MAN (I was rostered Jakarta originally, but swapped for Manchester to get some Christmas shopping done!)
- 5 days leave (just before Christmas, plus a few days off before my leave officially starts)
- CPH (Copenhagen – on Christmas Day, which I am desperately trying to swap!!)
- HKG (Hong Kong)
So a couple of turnarounds, and a few of the usual destinations. Munich should be lovely this time of year, I’m hoping for some snow. As my brother Matt lives there (and he does;t have university on the day I’m there) we’ll go to see the Christmas markets which should be very pretty.
I will most likely be heading to Mauritius on my leave (again!) and am sending hundreds of swaps to get rid of my Copenhagen so I can at least have Christmas Day off….I’ll keep you posted!
For now, it’s back to the books, wish me luck in my exams! π
EDIT: Within about half an hour of posting this, someone accepted one of my many swaps!
Instead of heading to Copenhagen and Hong Kong, I’ll now be doing a quick KWI (Kuwait turnaround) which gives me Christmas off, and then heading to ALG (Algiers) for a 48 hour layover. I’d love any tips, as it will be my first time there! π
Hello Rachel! I really love to read your blog! I have one question, could you ask it? So, how is it possible to change destination? Is there special site or how does it work? I’m very interested, thank you!

Hi Nikita, thanks for reading! We have an internal portal and can advertise our flights online, if somebody else wants your flight they can send a swap for it online! xx
My daughter has Beirut on Christmas Day…but makes up for it with Prague for New Year !
Author
Aw I bet Prague was lovely for New Year! I had a 4am wake up call on the 1st Jan so no big celebrations for me this year, haha!
All the best π Have a lovely Christmas.Hope to meet you one day on UK Birmingham Airport π
Author
Thank you! Hope you have a lovely Christmas as well π
Hello Rachel,
tomorrow I will attend Emirates Open Day in Rome and I would thank you for all the advices you gave in your blog for everyone that would be a flight attendant.
You make me dream with your post and photos!
Good luck for the exams,
Carmen

Hi there, hope it went well! π Let me know how you got on. I’m glad my blog could help! π
Hello
Unfortunately I didn’t pass the step of the cv, but it has been an amazing experience anyway, there were people from every country of the world!
I have to say that the only thing that surprised me was the fact that some people who hadn’t respect the dress code (they were in jeans and T-shirt) passed to the next step, but it’s okay, I don’t give up, even because I’m just 20 and half π
The next month I’ll try again in Napoli, my city…and concerning about Naples: are there Emirates flight for it? Have you ever been here?
Author
Sorry to hear you didn’t pass the CV round, maybe wait until you’re 21 (or almost 21) as that is one of the main requirements π We don’t fly to Naples yet…only to Rome, Milan, Venice and Bologna. I’ve never visited although I would love to!
Have you been to Manila yet? I’ve never seen it on your roster. Are those generally favoured by crew members or not so much?
Author
I flew there once about 2 years ago! It’s a pretty tough flight as it’s 2 class (no first class, which means a bigger economy cabin) and pretty long as well. (8/9 hours I think) Usually all the Philipino girls swap onto Manila flights!
nice swap! 48 hour layover, lovely. I have my boyfriend coming to dubai so also swapping away all my layovers for turnarounds. The crazy things you do for love haha
Author
Well, I’m hoping it will be nice, to be honest I sent about 50 swaps haha! Yes, tell me about it π
Hi Rachel-
Here on domestic flights, a lot of the gals like to have what they call ‘in flight boyfriends’ and they will flirt with a handsome man throughout the flight when the opportunity presents itself. Some even try to get phone numbers without any intention of actually calling the guy and some have the intention to call, but get too scared and donβt! Does this happen with gals you work with or is there not flirting allowed and a much more serious workspace? If a gentleman offers a business card or a number is it procedure to take it or to say that you cannot?
Cheers!
<3 Rhi

Hahaha I love this! I’ve never heard of anybody doing that π I’ve been given a few business cards but I’m sure they’re at the bottom of my suitcase somewhere, haha! You can definitely take a business card, you actually hear of plenty of girls who’ve met their husbands/boyfriends onboard!
You travel often when you are one leave, do you travel for free with EK or do you get half price tickets or sth? Anyways, have fun in Algeirs π
Author
Not quite free, but we get very discounted tickets π They are on standby though, so if the flight is full you don’t get on! Thank you π
If you have 48 hours in ALG, I recommend the roman ruins just outside of the city. Try to get some of the other crew interested and book the trip at the hotel π
Author
Ooh thanks for the tip! Do you know the name? I had a look on google and it seems there are a few! π
The name is Tipaza, they are UNESCO heritage and well worth seeing π I have a question for you too! My parents are coming to visit me in DXB for the first time, and I would like to treat them to a fancy afternoon tea. You wrote about that a few times on your blog, so, where, according to you, is the nices place to go? (and do I need to make a reservation for that?) Thanks Rachel π
Author
Thanks so much, I hope you enjoyed my post with the pictures from Tipaza! It was a great recommendation.
I would highly recommend the Waldorf Astroria on the Palm, or the Palace Downtown for afternoon tea. I believe we get at least 25% discount on both with the platinum card. Best to make a reservation so they can prepare plenty of fresh scones π
All the best on your exams. My daughter just started her training for Emirates and your blog is a good inspiration for me (the mom at home). Enjoy the Christmas market and your visit with family too!
Hi Rachel! Now that you’ve managed to swap your CPH, will you spend Christmas in Dubai anyway? π
xx from Italy
Author
No I’m actually going to be spending Christmas in Mauritius π
I just discovered your blog! I used to work for Emirates. I am working on my own blog post about my experience working for EK and it made me a bit nostalgic for my rosters and things like that haha
Author
Aww haha roster day is the best and worst day of the month!
