First of all my apologies for the lack of posts this month…I’ve been flying a lot but have mostly just been relaxing and taking it easy on my layovers, so I have nothing much to post on here!
Generally I like to post plenty of pictures from my trips, so I don’t think it’d be of much interest to only show you pictures of my breakfast and not much else! ๐
I’ve only got 1 more flight left this month til my leave starts, and then I’ll be heading to Mauritius the first week of October to celebrate my birthday! After my leave I have flights to:
- MUC (Munich, Germany)
- BKK (Bangkok, Thailand)
- SFO (San Fransisco, USA)
- First Class Upgrade Course (5 days back in training college!)
- KBL (Kabul, Afghanistan – turnaround)
- BCN (Barcelona, Spain)
I’m surprised that I’ve actually managed to get quite a number of flying hours what with my 5 days leave at the beginning of the month and my first class upgrade towards the end of the month. I also have a string of 4 days off that I bid for to go to a wedding, but my boyfriend didn’t get the days off so we will have to wait and see if we’ll be able to attend.
I actually got a couple of flights that I asked for – Munich, to see my younger brother, and Barcelona because I love the city! In fact I bid for Barcelona before deciding to go away with my best friend Lucy at the beginning of November – 3 guesses as to where we’ve decided to go! I was originally rostered 2 but I swapped the first one for a Bangkok that somebody sent me. I’m always happy to go to Thailand!
I’m still undecided as to whether or not I want to do the San Fran flight – 16 hours is such a long time to be on the plane! We’ll see if anyone wants to swap it but it’s not looking very promising.
Very excitingly I have finally been rostered for my upgrade to first class! It’s been exactly 2 years now that I’ve been working in business class, so I’m ready for a change and hopefully I’ll enjoy it. Stay tuned!
P.s. Follow me on Instagram & Twitter for more day-to-day updates of where I am in the world! 🙂
Hi Rachel !
Our daughter is joigning EK, flying out of BCN to DBX on Oct 28th. By any chance are you flying your BCN on this particular date?
Since she got her golden call we have been following your blog never missing a post !
One practical question ; should she introduce herself to somebody in the crew or they’ll already know she’s and ABinitio new joiner?
Thank you very much and safe and happy flights!

Hi Javier! What a shame, I will miss her by just 2 days ๐ So glad you’ve been enjoying reading my blog!
I would say definitely introduce herself to the crew, they will be able to see that she is staff but not that she is a new joiner. So hopefully that will mean that if they have time they will look after her and show her around the plane ๐ Good luck to her! ๐
rachel, congratulations!
iยดm sure youยดll be SFS and then purser soon.

Thanks Pablo! We’ll see, for now I’ll concentrate on first class ๐
Hi! I really enjoy your blog. Isn’t Kabul dangerous? I know it’s just a turnaround, but if something were to happen, and you had to get off the plane, would it be safe in Afghanistan?
Author
Hi Daniella! Hopefully we won’t have to get off the plane…I’m sure we would have some sort of protection if something were to happen though! (For example in Lagos we have armed guards escorting us to the crew hotel!)
Hey Rachael
Have you ever had a scary plane ride? Eg. Turbulence, rejected lift take off , strange noise from the plane, lighting struck?
I would love to hear any stories you have!
PS. Love your blogs! Can’t stop reading them!!

Hi Fay! I’ve experienced plenty of bad turbulence, but nothing so scary that I thought anything was going to happen! It’s usually over pretty quickly. As far as I know we’ve never had a lightening strike onboard, would be interesting to experience I’m sure! So not really too many interesting stories I suppose ๐
Congratulations. .someday we fly with you

Thanks Fatima! ๐
This sound amazing! I have a question, you study something before working for emirates? And you think is necessary to have work experience in customer care? Thank you so much!
Author
Thanks Jazmin! No I went to a specialist tourism and hospitality school in Austria but not university. It’s not a requirement to have experience but it is definitely a big plus! ๐
Congrats! I really love your enthusiasm and I’m looking forward to see more posts ๐

Thanks Magda! ๐
You have a great roster, I don’t think I could handle a 16 hour flight though! On MF we can do first class training when we have been online for a year, we don’t get a choice it just gets rostered to us ๐
Author
Yeah it’s not too bad! I’m dreading it already and nobody wants to swap it! ๐ Ah that’s interesting, for us we can apply when we are eligible after a certain amount of time, then we go through a practical assessment and knowledge test ๐
Wooow!!! Congratulations for your upgrade in First Class!! My FI went very well, so now let’s wait for the Golden Call!!

Thanks Vincent! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you ๐
