November Roster

So as you may remember from my October roster post, starting from next month (if all goes well) I’ll be working in first class! This means that I got my roster a little earlier than usual.

I’ll be starting off the month with 5 days leave, which I’ll be spending in Barcelona with my best friend Lucy. I’ve been to Barcelona lots of times, but I still love the city so I’m always happy to go back.

Other than that my roster is as follows:

  • Leave
  • EBB (Entebbe, Uganda – a new destination for me!)
  • LHR (London Heathrow, UK)
  • SFO (San Francisco, US)
  • ZRH (Zurich, Switzerland)
  • HKG (Hong Kong)

As you can see I have a new destination that I haven’t visited before, Entebbe! I’ll be researching what there is to do there in 24 hours, so any tips are most welcome.

Another trip to San Fran, which should be fun. Although the flight is veeeery long (I’ve just got back from a trip there as well!) it should be interesting working it in first class rather than business class.

My trip to HKG is one I’m very happy about, as it’s a 48 hour layover! When I saw that we had started 48 and 72 hour layovers there again I just had to bid for it. Now to plan what to do there with my lovely friend Kirsty!

    Hi Rachel,
I’ve been reading you’re lovely and exciting blog and I’m thrilled to know that you will be visiting Entebbe, Uganda! Uganda is usually referred to as “The Pearl of Africa” – for it’s beauty. I write a bit about “The Pearl” on my blog here: https://khukyenda.com/category/touring-the-pearl-of-africa/

Also, I’m excited about a trip I’m likely to take to Entebbe over the weekend and I can’t wait to share! Hopefully, you can read it for some tips and inspiration.
I look forward to your Entebbe post and all the others. Xx.

    Hi

    Loving your blog!

As the A380 now operates the Dubai-Sydney-Christchurch route (yay) and with a longer turnaround time in Christchurch, do you know whether crew can actually enter and perhaps have a 24 hr. layover in Christchurch and not being immediately shuttled back to Sydney as was on the old B737 Dubai-Bangkok-Sydney-Christchurch service?

Thank you for your help. 🙂

Hi Lucy! Thanks for reading 🙂 Yes it’s as you say, there is now a layover in Christchurch! Perhaps I’ll try and swap onto that flight as I’ve never been to Christchurch before! 🙂

Hello! I love your blog – Just had a good long read! Thank you for the useful information. I’m sure you get asked this question often, I want just wondering how hard it is to juggle both a social life and a boyfriend as well as flying. Do cabin crew meet partners in Dubai? I really want to apply but wouldn’t want pressure on that part of my life!

    Thank you 🙂

Hi Mindi, thanks for reading! 🙂 Hm it’s hard, but you have to make it work 🙂 For me it’s ideal as my boyfriend is also cabin crew, so we can try to get flights together (although recently our rosters have been quite conflicting) and he understands the crazy schedule we can have. Plenty of people meet their partner in Dubai, it’s a very social place if you want to go out! You just have to prioritise things in your life and decide how to make it work 🙂

Hey Rachel! Just wondering how the 48/72 hours layover in HK work?

I thought EK have multiple flights there each day! Which flights have the long layovers! 😛

Cant wait to read about the first class upgrade.

Hi Amie! Well I just checked on our bid-assist program and saw that there was a 48 hour layover, so I bid for it! Unfortunately it has now changed to a 34 hour layover, no idea why – such a shame! I’ll try and post about the upgrade soon if I can 🙂 xx

It is one of my favourite cities in Europe! I worked in Calella for a few months in 2010 and we went to Barcelona most weekends! I’ll definitely be enjoying the tapas, yum. Hope you enjoy reading 🙂

Entebbe is lovely! When it was on the mainfleet we just had dinner with the whole crew in the hotel and relaxed 🙂 You can go for a short boat ride on Lake Victoria, there is a super small marina attached to the resort. There are cute monkeys in the garden as well <3 If you like tasty, fresh, cheap and insanely big fruit, ask one of the boys in the lobby to go to the fruit market for you, they will deliver everything (mango, passion fruit, avocado…) to your room for a small fee (haggle!). The pineapples are bigger than your head and the avocado's bigger than your feet, trust me :p Enjoy!

Thanks for all of the tips Nik! I’ll definitely go for the boat ride, I heard you can go horse riding in the resort as well. And I’ll make sure to get all of the fruits and vegetables possible 😀 I got some enormous avocados when I was in Nairobi, I couldn’t believe the size of them!
