Even though Christmas is over now, I thought I’d show you a few pictures from my trip to New York. I bid for the flight in December specifically to see the beautiful Christmas lights, and although I only got rostered a 24 hour layover, I made sure to make the most of it!
The flight over takes around 14 hours, and we touched down after this beautiful sunrise, early in the morning.
As usual, there was plenty of traffic in New York, but since our hotel is right by Times Square, nobody minds the long drive from JFK airport.
Once we got to our rooms, I freshened up and got ready for the cold!
I was keeping all of my fingers crossed for snow, and although it had snowed in the previous days, it was a sunny day with bright blue skies while I was there. I made my way out towards Fifth Avenue, and along towards Central Park.
Stopping every few metres to admire all of the incredible Christmas lights!
Along the way I managed to get the last of my Christmas shopping done, without buying a single thing for myself… I think that must be a record 😉
Soon I arrived in beautifully snowy Central Park, and had a lovely stroll through.
I watched the ice skaters on the rink, and if I hadn’t been by myself might have been tempted to give it a go. It’s been a while since I’ve been ice skating!
After a long walk through Central Park, I made my way back to the hotel to rest for a bit, before meeting my friends Stephen and Colin for dinner.
Before dinner we had a walk through the city spotting some more Christmas lights, including the huge tree at the Rockefeller centre. So pretty!
Right behind is Saks which has a huge light display, which moves with the accompanying music, and almost felt like Disneyland!
The three of us had a delicious Italian meal for dinner, before calling it a night. After 30-something hours of being awake, I couldn’t wait to get into my bed!
I’m so happy I get the chance to travel the world, see Christmas lights in New York City, and catch up with friends while I’m there.
P.s. Follow me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter for more day-to-day updates of where I am in the world! 🙂
Hi Rachel, thank you so much for sharing your delightful visit to the Big Apple!! The pictures were wonderful and impressive …..and all along I always thought that London had the best Christmas lights in the world!!! you proved me so wrong! Keep travelling and having fun the world over. I wish the other Emirates flight attendants are also having as much fun and joy as you. There are many Emirates air hostesses that have lots of negative things to say about the airline on youtube, you on the other hand are very positive and happy!! Kudos to you!!
You are just like me! I swapped for a New York layover last month just to see the lights. It even started snowing while I was there which made everything look so magical!
