December Roster

The last roster of 2018! Don’t ask me how this has come around so quickly – I feel like this whole year has just sped by!

I’m hoping it’ll be a good month, although I’m working in business class again which will be a bit of a change!

In December I’ll be off to:

  • KUL – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • JED – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (turnaround)
  • LHR – London Heathrow, UK
  • Annual Leave
  • DUS – Düsseldorf, Germany
  • SEP Exams
  • SFO – San Fransisco, USA

First up is a trip to Kuala Lumpur. Funnily enough I hadn’t been in years, and now I’ve been rostered it two months in a row! The timing is a bit better this trip, so let’s see what I get up to there.

After that a fairly quick turnaround to Jeddah and back, followed straight away by a flight to Heathrow. I’m trying to swap these two together, but let’s see if it happens.

Then it’s time for my leave! Sadly it’s not over Christmas, so I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do – I have 7 days so any suggestions for places to go are more than welcome!

Next up is a trip to Düsseldorf, which I’ve been rostered with my friend Sebastian, so I’m very much looking forward to that. We’re planning to go to the Christmas markets and perhaps make the trip to Cologne.

Straight after I have my yearly recurrent exams, so I will need to get studying for those!

Last up is San Fransisco, which I haven’t visited in quite a while, so although I’m sure it’ll be a very busy flight as always, I’m looking forward to doing some exploring on the layover.

And that’s it for my December roster. As I said, I can’t quite believe how quickly time flies – I’ll be celebrating my 6 year anniversary of joining Emirates just before Christmas!

What an envious set of destinations for December!

December days provide excellent light and is a great time for wildlife viewing in the jungles of Nagarhole (Kabini) / Bandipur etc in Southern India (4 hours from BLR airport). Kabini on the banks of the Kabini river is a jungle area that formerly was the hunting grounds of the maharajahs and the British, leaving behind much historical legacies. Kabini hosts the largest number of Asiatic Elephants, Tigers and many other species of animals and birds. A real treat. I have never returned without seeing at least a hundred wild elephants, some of them up close, and many others lazily strolling the river banks!

Try out the great set of resorts here (Orange County/ Evolve Back [themed around the local Kuruba village], Waterwoods [small and cosy], Red Earth and of course the historically significant Jungle Lodges & Resorts that has a history that goes as far as the early part of the 20th Century). (the only place i’ve not been to)

Mysore is an on-the-way stopover with the Mysore Palace, but more importantly, a chance to learn how to cook a yummy Mysore Masala Dosa at a home. Or try the legacy military restaurant for some exciting local flavours. On the way back or towards Mysore, you can taste some of the most authentic Kannadiga cuisines, at a very rustic, but hugely popular chain called Kamat. The setting is very rural; hot, fresh food and coffee is simply delicious and a few local village craft shops sell some very good local souvenirs.

4-5 nights, and it will be plenty of time to ease through!

December is also excellent for Hampi – about 6 hours from BLR on the same road from the airport. Orange County is also at Hampi. It’s an ancient city of the 1300s which was one of the richest on earth, with connections to the empire at Angkor Vat. One can easily spend about 5-6 days just strolling, seeing and imagining the era that went by.

Madhya Pradesh is another great place for excellent wildlife, rural, experiential vacations. But that will involve a stop at either Mumbai or Delhi. An excellent range of experiential properties are there too.

Do let me know in case you need any help. I could put you through the resorts directly if required. Or help you with the entire program.
