Ending 2014 in Paris!

My last flight of the year was to Paris…and for the first time ever, I flew with a friend! Taylor from VOLARE managed to swap her Bangkok and we were ready to wander the streets of Paris.

After a relatively early start and a busy full flight, we arrived! Luckily we were blessed with gorgeous weather, unlike 2 days earlier where it had been pouring with rain and I only made it as far as the shopping centre next to the hotel!

After checking in we arranged to meet with a few other crew to share a taxi into the city centre, and we would split up once we were there. The driver dropped us off at the top of the Champs Élysées, right in front of the Arc du Triomphe!

We walked slowly down the Champs Élysées (mainly because of the sheer volume of people there!) admiring the sights. The next thing on our agenda was to find somewhere selling crepes!

Luckily we didn’t have to look too far, and soon found some delicious French crepes!

All bundled up in our winter gear and munching on our snack, we continued down the Champs Élysées. At the end we came to a sort of Christmas market which we had a browse around, although neither of us bought anything, surprisingly enough!

By this time it was late afternoon and the sky was looking rather pretty.

We continued walking in what we thought was the rough direction of the Eiffel Tower.

We passed the Grand Palais, where there is apparently the largest indoor ice skating rink in Paris! Unfortunately the queue was absolutely miles long, so we didn’t venture inside.

Gradually we came to the Pont Alexandre III, and finally spotted the Eiffel Tower!

We strolled along the bridge and then down by the river, enjoying the lovely view. It was also nice to have some crisp cold fresh air!

The lights on the Eiffel Tower came on just as we were reaching it, and it looked so lovely and pretty all lit up.

We stopped to take lots of pictures – we both have blog posts to write, after all! 😉

We found another Christmassy market and had a wander around. We had planned on going to a restaurant for dinner but ended up getting something from a little food stall in the market.

And of course as we would be landing into Dubai after midnight and missing out on all of the NYE celebrations, we decided to have our own mini celebration with a glass of champagne under the Eiffel Tower!

After a lovely afternoon and evening spent strolling the streets of Paris, it was time to get the train back to the hotel for a much needed sleep.

There was just time for breakfast together the next morning before our flight back. Thanks to it being NYE it was less than 1/4 in business so we had a nice relaxed flight for once!

We rang in the new year by counting down to midnight over the PA onboard…although we didn’t manage to see any of Dubai’s incredible fireworks. Ah well, there’s always next year!

Here’s to a wonderful 2015 – and a big thank you to all of my readers for sticking with me, I hope you continue to enjoy the blog this year! 🙂
